Support

Support for students

Pastoral Minister and support for students is an important part of school life in Meánscoil Gharman. Our Pastoral Ministry Program extends to all aspects of school life and the school staff provide a network of support based on respect and trust. The needs of the pupils change from year to year and these needs are regularly reviewed in response to the needs that are constantly changing. Our committee works together with parents and students to develop the self-confident and resilient young person.

The aim of the Pastoral Minister Committee and class teachers is for students to learn in a comfortable, safe and secure environment. At school we have organized a Comhairle na n’Daltaí where two people from each year are elected by the rest of the class to represent that class on the Council. During this Council we talk openly about school problems that the students have and find a solution to these problems together. Then, the representatives talk to the teachers about the problem and the ways to implement the solution.

If any student in the class has a problem, they can come to the class representative with the problem and that student will try his best to solve the problem at the next meeting of the Student Council.

For a student who is not willing to go to the class representative, they can go to a teacher so that the teacher will take the problem to the Council. Another support available is that the students can always go to the Teachers with any school problem and that teacher will do their best to help the student in the best direction for the student.

Past Student Experiences

"Looking back, I understand that there is no secondary school like Meánscoil Gharman. The opportunities it has given me, you wouldn’t get them in another secondary school..... it gave me great experiences and and confidence. I wouldn’t be worried about coming from an English-speaking secondary school because by the end of first year you'll be fluent in Irish".

''There is a really good spirit of the school, as well as the location being more unique than other schools....there were great trips from the school...we went to Paris in second year...in transition year we went to Bucharest...working with a charity''

“Is breá liom an tatmasféar sa scoil. Ceapaim gurb é sin an rud is fearr faoin scoil. Tá atmasféar na scoile i Meánscoil Gharman just go hiontach. Tá na múinteoirí agus na daltaí an cabhrach agus tá an méid daltaí sa scoil níos lú agus mar gheall ar sin tá deiseanna níos fearr agat is bíonn aithne maith ag na múinteoirí ort.”
