Digital Literacy & Misinformation
Critical thinking and digital literacy skills help combat the negative effects in our society of deep fake technology, algorithms, image manipulation and misinformation. Understanding their personal data rights and how to protect their privacy and security encourages students to respect the security and privacy of others.

Support
Support for students
Pastoral Minister and support for students is an important part of school life in Meánscoil Gharman. Our Pastoral Ministry Program extends to all aspects of school life and the school staff provide a network of support based on respect and trust. The needs of the pupils change from year to year and these needs are regularly reviewed in response to the needs that are constantly changing. Our committee works together with parents and students to develop the self-confident and resilient young person.
The aim of the Pastoral Minister Committee and class teachers is for students to learn in a comfortable, safe and secure environment. At school we have organized a Comhairle na n’Daltaí where two people from each year are elected by the rest of the class to represent that class on the Council. During this Council we talk openly about school problems that the students have and find a solution to these problems together. Then, the representatives talk to the teachers about the problem and the ways to implement the solution.
If any student in the class has a problem, they can come to the class representative with the problem and that student will try his best to solve the problem at the next meeting of the Student Council.
For a student who is not willing to go to the class representative, they can go to a teacher so that the teacher will take the problem to the Council. Another support available is that the students can always go to the Teachers with any school problem and that teacher will do their best to help the student in the best direction for the student.

Study Resources
There are thousands of learning methods. Here on this page in English are our favorite resources at Meánscoil Gharman.
Did you know that quizlet is a mobile app where you can start or create a study session on any topic. You can make flash cards, make competitions and match images with buzzwords. Quizlet is very useful for languages and subjects like history and geography. kahoot is a fun site with lots of quizzes. A teacher’s ipad or phone connects to the host and the students follow the game with a code. The students who get the most questions correct, at the fastest speed, win. Anyone can create a kahoot quiz.
With the introduction of the iPad in our school, students are provided with the opportunity to research topics in depth. This has dramatically altered students’ access to knowledge and learning can exceed the limitations imposed by textbooks. Students enjoy working with specialised materials, texts and high-quality resources provided by the e-book.
